Earls Court SW5 name derives from the notable 16th century Rich family that owned land in the area. They were earls of Warwick. After the last Rich member died, the Edwardes family took over.

Writer Agatha Christie lived in Earls Court SW5 in Cresswell Place. Archaeologist Howard Carter who is known for discovering Tutankhamun’s tomb lived here as well. Diana, Princess of Wales had an apartment on Old Brompton Road. She used to workout at the Earls Court Gym.

Notable people who lived in Earls Court are children’s author Beatrix Potter, English writer Agatha Christie, filmmaker and producer Alfred Hitchcock, Irish portrait painter Sir William Orpen, and actress Hattie Jacques. Howard Carter, an Egyptologist and archeologist who first discovered the Tutankhamun tomb, was also a resident of the area.

Musicians such as Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, and Jimi Hendrix played at The Troubadour music venue during the 50s.

Earls Court in central London is a borough in the royal district of Chelsea and Kensington. It borders the railway tracks of the District and West London lines that separate it from Kensington to the north, Chelsea to the south, the sub-regions of South Kensington to the east, and the ancient municipality of Fulham to the west.

Local attractions within Earls Court include the Victoria and Albert Museum, Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum, Holland Park, Kensington High Street, the Science Museum, Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens. The Earls Court Exhibition Centre, a foremost international events and exhibition venue, used to be situated in the area until its closure in 2014.
