The proximity to Elstree Studios makes Aldenham WD25 a popular filming location. Coldplay’s Life in Technicolor II video was filmed in the area. The BBC series Pathfinder and 1974 movie Confessions of a Window Cleaner were filmed here as well. The area is featured in many commercials. Artist Daniel Chatto, TV presenter Dale Winton, founder of Surrey Space Center Sir Martin Sweeting, cricketer Leo Reid, and politician David Mitchell attended Aldenham School. Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School opened in 1690. Footballer John Knight taught Chemistry here.
One of the attractions of Aldenham WD25 is the seven hundred years old church, St John the Baptist. Evidence shows that St John the Baptist is built on the site of an older Saxon church. The stained glass and the church’s architectural symbol, the Hertfordshire Spike, were damaged in World War II. The restoration works took 11 years. Near the church, one can see a 16th-century medieval hall house that is now Aldenham Social Club. Church Farm House dates from the 16th century as well. The old vicarage was transformed into two houses. The building is a notable example of 18th-century red brick construction.
The abbots of Westminster Abbey owned most of this WD25 area in the Saxon times. The 11th-century Domesday Book mentions Aldenham. This North London area was larger 500 years ago before the English Reformation. The area has eight historic buildings that are older than the 19th century. Hilfield Lane features several historic buildings such as the Three Compasses pub, Patchetts Farm, and Little Patchetts Green Farm. Delrow Cottage, Garden Cottage, Crossways Cottage, and Delrow Almshouses are other listed buildings. Aldenham Abbey is now known as Wall Hall. This Gothic-style country house dates from 1802. Banker George Woodford Thelluson was the first resident. Admiral Pole bought the house in 1812. Now it houses luxury apartments.
