Stone is a town within the Borough of Dartford, situated on the eastern side of the village of Dartford, Kent. There are 6,252 residents in the area according to the 2001 Census, with 95.9% white, 1.6% Asian, 1.3% black, 0.9% mixed race and 0.3% other.
The area is served by Stone Crossing railway station, with trains running to London Charing Cross both via Gillingham, Woolwich Arsenal and Gravesend and via Sidcup. Bus route 492 by Transport for London (TfL) serves Stone and travels to Gravesend via Bluewater and Swanscombe and to Sidcup via Dartford and Bexleyheath.
Stone is home to the 4th biggest shopping center in the country, Bluewater Shopping Centre. Situated in an ex-chalk quarry, it was opened on March 16, 1999 and occupies 240 acres. Bluewater’s sales floor area is 1,600,000 square feet and has 7,00 employees, serving more than 27 million visitors annually.
