Edda, a Saxon name, is the origin of the Addington CR0 name. The area was first known as Edintona and later as Eddintone. Most people associate it with the Addington Palace. The Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin stands on the site of a 1080 or even older church. The chancel and windows date from the 11th century. The 13th-century South Isle had a thatched roof. The inaccessible crypt is the resting place of the Leigh family, a Lord Mayor of London, and six Archbishops of Canterbury who lived at Addington Palace.
