Sipson is a town within the London Borough of Hillingdon, Greater London’s westernmost region. It is located 23 km (14.3 miles) west of Charing Cross and close to the northern border of Heathrow Airport. The area is near other villages such as West Drayton, Hayes, Harlington and Harmondsworth.
Much of the land in Sipson including Harlington and Harmondsworth are owned by gravel companies. They acquire planning clearance to extract sand and gravel on condition that they rebuild the land afterwards for agricultural purposes. The land is utilized for cultivating wheat before and after the extraction of gravel.
The most notable person associated with the area is Lionel Robbins, a renowned economist who was born there. Famous local structures in Sipson include King William IV pub (a Grade II listed building), Sipson Baptist Church (built in 1891), Inglenook and Zayani Indian Restaurant.
