Did you know that...
South Stifford is a small suburban village with the municipality of Grays. It separates the town center of Grays from Lakeside Shopping Centre and West Thurrock. South Stifford functions as a residential neighborhood for people working in several factories in the town as well as in retail establishments of the surrounding areas.
Stifford Primary School is the only primary school in the area. There are many historic buildings near South Stifford such as Tilbury Fort (also known as West Tilbury Blockhouse and Thermitage Bulwark), Orset Hall (a Grade 2 listed building) and Bata Factory.
The other village that divides the traditional parish of Stifford is North Stifford, where St. Mary’s (the original parish church) is located. The church holds many fascinating monumental brasses from the Middle Ages.
